Registration At Molyneux Park Stadium Friday 19th March 3pm to 7pm. Race briefing which you must attend will be held at the Molyneux Park Stadium at 8pm.
Withdrawals (we will be enforcing our withdrawal refund policy as listed below)
Withdrawals made up to January 31st will incur 5% handling fee on their refund. 1st to 28th February will receive a 50% refund. 1st to 15th March will receive no refund. A 5% handling fee will be deducted from any entry fee refunds up till 31st January.
Prizes and Trophies There will be trophies for all categories. Certificates will be issued with final results. Prizes will be allocated according to the numbers in the different categories - Emphasis on spot prizes. Competitors will be eligible for participation prizes. These take the form of Spot Prizes up to the value of $1000+. Prizes include kayaks, bikes, accessories and clothing, etc. Visit our Sponsors page for more information.
Meals Three meals for competitors are included in the entry fee and will be provided at Upper Manorburn, Tarras and at the finish at Alexandra. Extra meal tickets are available. Please indicate on your entry in the place provided if you want any of these. Please pay for these when ordered.
Equipment A Kayaking helmet with a hard shell of fibreglass or plastic must be worn on Stage 9. Floatation air bags are required in all kayaks as well as foam pillars. Cycle helmets must be worn on all cycle stages & must be NZ Safety Standard or USAZ904 Standard. Polyprop clothing should be carried or worn at all times (outlined in newsletter to competitors) - conditions are changeable. Approved life jackets MUST be worn on kayak sections. Failure to comply with these requirements will be grounds for instant disqualification of the competitor; such disqualification may extend to the relevant team. A foil survival blanket is required on several of the stages - please provide. KAYAK SCRUINTINEERING WILL TAKE PLACE AT GOLDRUSH REGISTRATION. PLEASE HAVE ALL THE REQUIRED EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE. (Spray skirt, helmet, paddle, life jacket, air bags, food, repair tape, first aid kit, survival blanket and spare polypropylene all tied inside the kayak.) Please have available for inspection.

Team Sizes: Teams can either consist of 2 or 3 persons. The school teams must be 3 person teams. An adult may be included in the school teams, but the team will be classed non competitive. This option normally would be used when school team does not have kayaker and/or for safety reasons. This will need to be indicated to organisers at time of entry.
Support Crew A newsletter will be emailed to Individual entrants and Team Captains outlining the support crews' distances and approximate times, etc. It is also on the website newsletter and will be in the race booklet.
Numbers A race bib will be issued for each entry. For teams the bib will need to be changed at each transition. The bib must be worn with the number and sponsor's name clearly visible at all times by the competitor actually taking part in each stage. Numbers and decals MUST be attached as described at the pre-race briefing.
Course Practice Much of the course passes through private property. We have arranged set weekends for practice runs on these properties. Dates are 27th Feb - 28th Feb and 6th - 7th March 2010 Please contact the organisers if you want to do practice runs on any of the following stages 2, 3, & 4 on these weekends. THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT!
Cycling Drafting and aero bars will be permitted on all cycling sections. Please do not use aero bars while cycling in groups.
Kayaking All kayakers who do Stage 9 on the Upper Clutha River on day 3 of the Goldrush must have a Grade 2 Certificate. If you are the designated kayaker for stage 9 of the Goldrush, by submitting the entry form you have indicated that you have a grade 2 kayaking certificate or are enrolled in a grade 2 kayaking course. All new competitors must post to us a letter or certificate from a kayak instructor stating they are capable of paddling a grade 2 river. New competitors currently enrolled in a grade 2 course have until December 31st 2003 to complete their course provided they submit written confirmation of their course enrolment to us at time of entry. Any new entrant in Goldrush or a previous competitor who has not done the Stage 9 kayaking section of the Goldrush and is submitting an entry without the kayaking certificate or kayaking enrolment confirmation will be automatically placed on the waiting list. Competitors from previous years need only state on the entry form the year or years they completed the kayaking section in the event. They do not have to send in another kayaking certificate.
Grade Two Kayaking Requirements
- GENERAL KNOWLEDGE - in discussion with the instructor the candidate should show good knowledge of the following - Personal kayaking and safety equipment; the international river grading system; tying kayaks onto roof racks and trailers; river dynamics at grade 2 level; and knowing how to recognise and treat hypothermia.
- FLAT WATER SKILLS - candidates should demonstrate the following strokes on flat water: capsize drill and swimming 50 metres with kayak and paddle to the bank; forward paddling; reverse paddling; forward and reverse sweep strokes; low brace turns; leaning and railing; stern rudder; deep water rescue.
- MOVING WATER SKILLS - candidates should demonstrate competence on grade 2 water in the following: capsize and self rescue; forward paddling; break in/break out; forward and reverse sweep stroke, low brace; reading and running rapids; towing swimmers and their equipment; stern deck carry of swimmers; throw bag rescues of swimmers.
- YOUR BUOYANCY AID - should be securely fitting, free of defects and of 6.2kg minimum buoyancy.
Mixed Teams These teams are to have at least 1 female. Female is to do at least 1 stage per day. Mixed teams in open and veteran section only.
School Teams Must be 3 person teams and be High School Students at the time of race.
Tandem Teams Teams of 2 persons. Race as a team and both persons must complete each stage. They must race in double kayaks. They can use tandem bike on the road bike sections, but will not be compulsory. Mountain bikes can be single or tandems. Teams must cross the finish line together on all stages. 1 class only, open teams.
Corporate Teams Must include full time employees of the team entered. The members of the team must do at least 1 stage of the race each day.
